Hurricane Ike Illustrated with 3D Wheather Model and a Multi Touch Interface… Nice!

Take a look at this CNN weatherforecast of hurricane Ike from today. At 1:20 in the clip he uses the 3 dimensional multi touch display. For once it is not only eye candy but has value and gives a good impression of the hurricane. Nice use and integration of Google Maps as well.

Very nice, but I’m not sure this is multitouch. You can see the mouse cursor at one point, and I don’t see him using both hands at any time.

No, your probably right, it just looks that way when he rotates the picture. But the second time it is just a looped animation. But nice anyway.

Definitely not multi-touch. He only uses his right index finger and holds his left hand to the screen. Like Klaus said the mouse cursor. Regardless very nice way of illustrating the situation, an added value.

Nicely choreographed. They probably made him watch Minority Report before going on air :)

Baekdal writes that the system is a licensed version of Jeff Han’s system. I don’t know where he got that information from, though.

I still would argue that it is a multi touch solution. I think the way he uses his fingers at 1:20 in the clip demonstrates that it is a multi touch interface and it is supported by this blog post Baekdal’s blog and on the article from The Washington Post (also from Baekdals blog)

To Klaus: Here’s more on the Minority Report/Multi Touch connection.
